ARCH 172: Kankakee Structures
This site combines individual single-operation buildings to envision a centennial future for the Kankakee, designing spaces that negotiate the boundary between human activity and wildlife through both interaction and separation
Each model, used as a living room gizmo in the Kankakee Marsh, begins with fixed volumes (20’×8’×10’) and follows a single Rhino operation.
This series explores how folding transforms a simple, rigid volume into dynamic spatial forms. Using only folding operations, each panel is manipulated to create rhythm, depth, and movement while retaining the original material. The folds are used to create stairs, hallways, and rooms to create interactive spaces to explore.
